Introduction

A short background on getting started in fly fishing

First fish on a fly, May 2019

It all started with a long distance relationship and some free time in Colorado. After growing up saltwater fishing with conventional tackle in Louisiana, in my 30s I found my self in the Rockies occasionally and figured I’d give fly fishing a try. I went on a guided trip in late May of 2019 and caught a rainbow trout and a brown trout, and decided to take up the sport. I bought my own rod and reel that same weekend and started learning about all of the tackle and techniques related to trout fishing. Back home in Louisiana I used that same 4 weight to practice my knots and casting on the panfish in local ponds. Eventually I got an 8 weight to go after the redfish and specked trout in the marsh. It’s been a great first few years, and I hope to use this blog to document my journey going forward.
